With Hillside, Doniger took one of the first major steps in the transformation of Amstel III. The former Holendrecht–Amstel III office district is becoming a mixed-use neighbourhood where living and working come together. Hillside is a landmark within this transformation and one of the first projects to have visibly improved the quality of the area.
Doniger developed the project in partnership with B-Right Urban Living. B-Right held a one-third stake in the investment and acted as the development manager.
The existing office building at Paasheuvelweg 17 was converted into 54 homes for first-time renters. A new 48-metre residential tower was built alongside it, comprising 179 studios and one-bedroom apartments.
All 233 homes were completed and let by the end of 2022, along with the commercial and food and beverage spaces at ground level. Hillside now provides a home for many young people seeking housing in Amsterdam and contributes to a lively neighbourhood that combines living and working.
