Frame building adds 213 homes to Amsterdam Southeast
17 August 2023
In the liveliest part of Amsterdam Zuidoost – between the Amsterdamse Poort and Bijlmer ArenA Station – developer Doniger Urban Developments has completed the residential building The Frame Building. This means that Amsterdam has now gained 213 comfortable homes in one go. What is striking about the large residential building is that there are only five years between the purchase of the former office building and the completion of the new building.
These are rental homes, which are rented out in the social, middle and private sector segments: 30 percent of the homes fall in the social segment, 20 percent in the middle segment and 50 percent in the private sector. The building includes various facilities, such as a roof terrace, a communal laundry room, parcel services in the entrance and an indoor bicycle shed for more than four hundred bicycles.
The Frame Building has replaced an outdated annex of the former ING office in Amsterdam Zuidoost. The design by MVSA Architects meets the highest sustainability requirements and contains both apartments for small households and homes for families. The houses vary in size from 26 m² to over 100 m². Astrid van den Berg, development director of Doniger Urban Developments: “With the realization of Frame Building, we are making an important contribution to reducing the housing shortage. The fact that we were able to realize the building so quickly is partly due to the good cooperation with the Municipality of Amsterdam and contractor Plegt-Vos.”
