Oude Haven van Huizen
The current location of Coronel Kartracing on Havenstraat in Huizen is set to make way for residential development, if it’s up to the owners. Doniger Urban Developments, also co-owner of the land, has been appointed as the delegated developer.
Where the go-kart track and various children’s and adult activities are currently located, around 160 apartments and ground-level homes will be built.
The apartments are planned along the edges of the area: on the Wolfskamer side, there will be a three-story apartment building with a pitched roof. Along Havenstraat, buildings will reach up to four stories with a rotated roof structure. The inner area will offer space for greenery and ground-level homes, such as the back-to-back houses reminiscent of the characteristic architecture on the Botterwerf. Parking will be provided on private grounds in concealed parking bays.
A notable feature of the plan is its focus on target groups that currently struggle to find suitable housing in the municipality: first-time homebuyers, singles, and seniors whose children have moved out. (Young) families will also be able to live here. About half of the apartments will fall within the affordable housing segment (social rental or purchase and mid-range ownership).
The historic Du Crocq building will be restored to its former glory and will house loft apartments and studios for single-person households.
Havenstraat will feature a vibrant ground floor with facilities that enhance the experience of the Haven area (Nautical Tourist Recreational Activities).
